Colors of 2017

January 21, 2017

The 2017 color of the year announced by the Pantone Color Institute is often a reflection of what is happening in the world. Color has always been an integral part of how cultures express attitude and emotion of the times. These colors influence paint, textiles, fashion and product design internationally. The trends in style, colors and patterns offered today are influenced by many global factors. It is interesting to learn about these; however each individual will have their own preferences and needs to consider if adapting these in their home decor.

This annual color forecast is put out every year by the Pantone Institute.  This independent group of 20 individuals study global trends, social influences and color.  Pantone Inc is a New Jersey company known for the PMS color matching and reference system.  The PMS colors guide is used by many industries.  It provides a standardized system for graphic designer and industrial designers to specific color.

Greenery is the 2017 color of the year (Pantone 15-0343)  is a bright yellow green.  Described as one of natures “trans-seasonal” shades that pairs well with neutrals, brights, deeper shades and pastels.  Pantones instituted Leatrice Eiseman explains, “This is the color of hopefulness and of our connection of nature.  It speaks to what we call ‘re’words: regenerate, refresh, revitalize and renew.

The Color marketing Group is another group of color and design professionals who meet to study global influences and collaborate about color.  Their selection of color groups are intended to communicate a direction of color trends, not a dictation of what they think it should be.  The 2017 North American key color is “thrive” that grows beyond its eco roots.  Green is the color of growth, newness and wellbeing and “Thrive” will be the hue to carry us forward.  Healthy living and healthy lifestyles are key indicators for this color.  This hue is ideal as a key color for going forward.  This color’s strong yellow influence adds freshness and vitality to create a feeling that is comfortable for all.

We look forward to the new fabrics, colors and designs introduced throughout the year by the home furnishing industry.  It gives us the chance to update our showroom with the latest looks, plus provide new options for our design clients and customer's home interiors.
